The British Golf Museum is set to become the focus of golf's heritage during the 150th Open Championship in St Andrews.

In addition to The Open Championship Trail in the museum, which visitors have been enjoying since May, several rare golfing artefacts from the history of The Open are on display.

Highlights include the only known manuscript account of The Open Championship, the 1860 Open Championship Letter. Written on 19th October 1860, two days after the first Championship, the letter reveals the disappointment felt by George Glennie at Tom Morris' defeat, calling Willie Park a 'lucky player'.

Also on display is Tom Morris' Scorecard from 1864. This is the oldest-known Open Championship scorecard. It shows Tom Morris' scores of 54, 56 and 55 for the three rounds of Prestwick's 12-hole course. In 1864, the Champion received prize money for the first time. Tom Morris won £6.

The British Golf Museum has also become one of only eight museums in Scotland to be rated in the highest category of Visit Scotland's Quality Assurance Scheme. We are delighted to have achieved the accolade of being a 5 star museum for the sixth consecutive year. The award recognises museum facilities and exhibitions of an exceptional standard and visitors can be assured a fantastic welcome with 'service of a world class status'.

In order to ensure that as many visitors as possible can experience the drama and the excitement of the game, we are extending our opening hours for the week of The Open Championship.

The museum will open its doors to the public from 9am until 7pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday, so you will have even more time to experience the history of golf's oldest Major.

We look forward to welcoming you to the museum as we continue to celebrate our 20th Anniversary and the 150th Anniversary of The Open Championship.
