We are offering FREE entry to The British Golf Museum this Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October to celebrate the anniversary of the first Open Championship.

Saturday 17th October sees the 149th anniversary of The Open Championship, which was first played at Prestwick in 1860. To mark the occasion we are welcoming visitors to the museum for free. The museum is packed full of exciting displays, many of which relate to the history of The Open Championship from its beginnings to the present day. See how The Open has grown from that first small competition when only eight players entered to the global event it is today.

Explore the venues which host The Open around the UK and view film highlights from past Opens dating back to 1914. Take the opportunity to view the Claret Jug up close and pick out the names of your favourite players. Exhibits include the first Open medal presented to Tom Morris Junior in 1872 and each of the five Open medals won by J.H. Taylor and James Braid.

In 2010 we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of The Open Championship, when it returns to St Andrews, and the 20th anniversary of the British Golf Museum, with special events and days featuring throughout the year. If you are in St Andrews this weekend, it may be your last chance to see some of our exhibitions, which will be changing for next year. Take this opportunity to visit us for FREE on 17th and 18th October.
