The British Golf Museum
has started the summer season with an unusual new exhibition. The
Majors Collection was donated to the Museum during the 2002 Dunhill
Links Championship by Tico Torres, drummer with the rock band, Bon
Jovi. And for the summer months, the Museum is opening its doors
free on last Friday of each month, starting on 30th May and finishing
on the 29th August.
The Collection is made up of 10 bronzes showing the grips of well-known
golfers including Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer, Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros
and Nick Faldo.
Although most famous as musician, Tico is also an enthusiastic
golfer and an accomplished artist in several fields including
paintings, ceramics and glass work.
St. Andrews Caddy Manager, Rick MacKenzie, seen here comparing
his grip to Jack Nicklaus, commented “ Jack describes his
grip as being like “holding a bird in the hand” My
copy of his grip perhaps would throttle the bird!”
