The Kelpies are coming

Icons of modern Scottish design, the Kelpie Maquesttes, are coming to St Andrews this summer, 2017.


From July 24th, The Kelpies will be in St Andrews, located on the Bruce Embankment, adjacent to the British Golf Museum, behind the famous Royal and Ancient Golf Clubhouse and within site of the stunning West Sands beach.


The three metre high sculptures were hand crafted by renowned Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, and were used as the models to create the world's largest equine sculpture, The Kelpies, situated in Falkirk.  The Maquettes tour the world helping to promote Scotland and the Falkirk area as visitor destinations.


On Saturday 29th July there will be a community launch event for the Kelpies arrival with a parade down the Scores lead by Pixie the shire horse to arrive at the Bruce Embankment for 11am.  Visit for full details.


The Museum is supporting the arrival of the Kelpies with a programme of events for the coming months.

Saturday 29th July, 11am-1pm Sheila Kinninmonth will be telliing stories inspired by the Kelpies in the galleries and Bruce Embankment bandstand.


29th July, 1pm-3pm and 2nd September, 10am-12pm: Kite Making workshop.

Be inspired by the mythology of the Kelpies, the location of the town and our collections and make your very own kite.  Weather permitting we will fly our kites on the roof once completed.  Kids should be accompnanied by an adult.  Free spaces but limited to 10, please book by emailing


5th August and 9th September, 10am-4pm: Illustrated Book workshop for adults.

Do you have a story to tell? Come to our special workshop for creatign your very own illustrated book.  The workshop will take place in our galleries and is limted to 10 people with a cost of £10 per person.  Please bring your own blank notebook to fill with your designs.  Please email to book a space.
